"THERE ARE
GONNA BE
SO MANY DIRTY
BATHROOMS"
Rick and Cylon brave the icy waters of Cold Fear, a mid-tier Resident Evil clone set aboard a creepy ship. While the game boasts some atmospheric tension and a few clever mechanics, it never quite escapes the shadow of survival horror’s heavyweights—or its own absurdly generic title. As Rick points out, “There’s no shortage of games with (Blank) Fear in the name, but this one might be the most forgettable.”
Rick steers the ship—literally and figuratively—through the game’s uneven mix of spooky corridors and awkward combat, while Cylon roasts the game’s clichés and questions just how many crates can fit on a single boat. Between the stiff controls, laughable voice acting, and moments of accidental hilarity, the duo finds plenty to riff on.
Though Cold Fear may not reach survival horror greatness, Rick and Cylon’s sharp commentary and ability to make the best of even the middest of games make this stream an entertaining dive into the murky waters of forgotten horror titles.
