GAME BIO: Sonic the Hedgehog is a 2D platform game developed by Sega and released in 1991 for the Sega Genesis. The game introduced Sonic, a blue anthropomorphic hedgehog designed around high-speed platforming, momentum-based physics, and looping level design. Players race through side-scrolling stages to stop Dr. Robotnik from capturing animals and conquering the world using robotic machines. Sonic the Hedgehog became a defining title of the 16-bit era and established Sonic as Sega’s flagship mascot, helping shape the identity of the Genesis platform.
