The game is unique in that it uses "lock-on technology," allowing players to combine it with Sonic 3 to create the definitive Sonic 3 & Knuckles experience. With two playable characters, massive levels, and the first-ever Super/Hyper Knuckles, Sonic & Knuckles is widely regarded as a classic of the 16-bit era.
